Destination Experiences

I like to travel. Like, a lot. So, it wasn't a shock to my family when I rolled out the idea to offer destination photo experiences for seniors, families, and branding clients. These sessions have taken me everywhere from Vegas to NYC and I'm so excited to keep checking out new places. If you've never considered a destination experience or want to know more about them, this is a good blog post to read.
Throughout this blog, I'm going to post photos of Creah Tompkins, Prophetstown Class of 2026. We photographed her Senior Portrait Session at Eagle Point Park and outside the Mississippi riverfront restaurant, Candlelight Inn, both in Clinton, Iowa.
I'm going to try to condense the information down for you by posting the most frequently asked questions and my answers.
"What is a destination session?"
It simply means that I'll travel to take photos. That can mean I travel to where you live, meet you at your vacation spot, or we can meet/travel somewhere together! (I think it goes without saying, but your parent/guardian has to be there for senior sessions.)
"How far do we have to go?"
"Destination" means something different to everyone. To my husband, it means going an hour away. To my mom, it means having to fly because it's impractical to drive. There are hundreds of amazing places that can be a daytrip and even more that require a flight and possible overnight stay. There is a great place for everyone so don't be afraid to ask. And I'll get you a quote before you commit of course! (More on this below.)
"How much does it cost?"
We aren't looking to profit off of travel expenses so what it costs us to get somewhere safely is what we charge. For destination sessions, I require a phone consultation. On that call, we'll talk about exactly what you're looking for. I'll get a quote together and send it to you before any commitments are made.
Pro-tip: I live within 5 hours of several major cities, many of which I frequent. Ask me if there will be dates that I will already be in those cities. If I'm already going to be there, I'm not charging you for my travel!
"Is it hard to plan?"
Nope! We have a chat, either on the phone, on Zoom, or in person, and I put a plan together. I present that plan to you with a quote and we go from there! You don't have to overthink every detail-that's my job!
"Is it worth it?"
I work very hard to give each client a unique photo experience regardless of the location. However, with me, the photo sessions are not just about the photos. They are about giving each client a unique experience that fits that client's personality. Did your family grow up going to the beach every year? Let's have photos that reflect that! Did your daughter dream of visiting Niagara Falls, but you've never been able to make it work before and now you feel time slipping away? Let's document it! Life after high school seems to move more quickly than people expect. With destination experiences, not only do you get epic photos unlike anything else anyone in your area has, but you also get to make memories with your family that last a lifetime.
TLDR: Yes. It is very worth it.
"How do I get to see my photos after?"
Approximately two weeks after your session, we'll view them together! If you're local, you'll come to my office. If you're not, we'll do a Zoom call. Either way, we'll go through your photos and choose your best ones for your album, wall portraits, or whatever products you need for your home. I'll walk you through every option to be sure you get what you're looking for!
How will I receive my album, wall art, etc.?
We will ship everything to you! You don't have to worry about a thing!
How do I start the destination experience process?
